Reeves Rangers 2-4 Burghfield FC Res

This was defiantly a tale of two halves with our good and bad sides being displayed. I asked for a work like performance this weekend, with everyone putting in the effort and making a noticeable improvement on the back of our last game.

I got just the response I was looking for and we pretty much bossed the 1st half. We were clearly the better team in all quarters of the field and displayed good control and creativity. Everyone stepped up to the plate Sunday and gave a really good account of them self in the first 45min. We worked hard and kept a good shape Sunday, we had a bit of an attitude with a few heavy tackles going in and players putting their foot in which had been absent in recent weeks.

It didn’t take long, in fact 60 seconds to get on to the score sheet, with Adam Leahy getting his toe in after a bit of a goal mouth scramble. Playing at right back clearly suits him as he went on to get a brace in the first half and look odds on to secure a hatrick. We had plenty of possession in the first half and worked the wings well with some good link up play.

We battled well in the middle of the park which gave the defence the opportunity to hold a higher line. Defending the high ball worked well in the 1st half as we challenged and won most of the aerial battle, ( Jamie Bushnell).

The two other goals were scored by Adam T and an OG given to Larry. Larry was awarded the goal having put the last defender under pressure, who calmly slotted it past his own keeper. Adam goal was reminiscent of the goal he scored last time we played them. Adam Morris played his part on the left wing laying the ball of to AT who sweetly struck the ball in to the far left of the goal, keeper had no chance.

Four nil at haft time and the game was in the bag. Thankfully that was the case as the second 45 was a real change of fortune. I did warn you that complacency would play a big part in the second half and nothing less than total commitment would be acceptable.

I may as well have been talking to my self as we never got started in the second half. We looked rushed and out played against a particularly poor team. Bit of a sad indictment guys which tarnished the good work done in the first half. We conceded two goals again from set pieces; a lack of concentration and poor decision making was to blame. We never learn by our mistakes where set plays are concerned. Giving the opposition the opportunity in the first place must be worked out of our game. Defending set pieces has to demand absolute concentration and organisation, if we don’t wise up we will be punished week in week out.

We have some stronger tests coming up and I have concerns about us drifting in and out of games. You will only have your self to blame if you don’t do your self justice over the 90 mins. If you take things for granted guys we don’t play well, I would rather not play than concede games that we control and subsequently forfeit. We have to want to kill teams off and turn the screw at every opportunity, if the shoe was on the other foot they would do it to us.

MOTM this week goes to Leahy, 2 goals and didn’t put a foot wrong. Other notable performances, Ben, didn’t look troubled in goal but picked up a knock. Jamie B, big aerial presence and Larry, ran, ran, ran, moaned, moaned, moaned all morning but he is defiantly a team player. Bishop, back in goal after a long injury, you could tell:0) and Callum having a test for 45 mins and coming out the other side unscathed.

As always guys enjoy your footy, it's what Sunday’s are all about

Burghfield FC Committee – Summer Report

 Dear All,

I wanted to reach out to you all as members of Burghfield FC, to update you on recent activities at the Club, and to ask for your help on a couple of important items coming up in the near future.

The new Committee is starting to settle into their new roles, and we have just completed our 4th Meeting as a group.

The Committee is currently as follows:

·         Rob Cheshire – Chairperson

·         Mark Williams – Vice-Chair, Membership Secretary

·         Natalie Foote – Treasurer

·         Viv Harris/Alice Valentine-Willis – Joint Child Welfare Officers

·         Gary Chaplin – Communications Officer

·         Jim Telford – Football Development Officer

·         Vacant – Secretary

·          Luke Bishop -  Purchasing Officer

·         Vacant – Sponsorship Officer

We are thrilled to report that the Membership Subs have been collected with splendid efficiency by our new Membership Secretary, Mark Williams. We would also like to thank you all for cooperating with Mark to get this task completed so effectively.

This week at the Committee Meeting we received the first reports from two of the new Sub-Committee heads that we have appointed:

·         Julie Telford, as Schools Liaison Officer reported on her plans to initiate closer contact with all of the local schools, to attempt to step up recruitment of new players, particularly from the younger age-groups. This first campaign that Julie will launch is a “Bring a Friend to Training” initiative, to start later this month.

·         Graham Rutland, as Tournament Officer, reported on his ambitious plans for Burghfield to run the biggest and best Club Tournament in Berkshire next summer. We will be announcing the date of our Tournament during the next week, and then embarking upon an aggressive advertising campaign to drive the highest possible attendance levels.

In order to run a great Tournament and achieve the other objectives of the Club, we need volunteers to help run the club. The most important thing is that the Club is yours and to get the most from it for your children the Committee, coaches and volunteers need your help.

As you can see above, we currently have three vacancies on the Committee. .  If you think you have something to offer, why not let me know and I can let you know exactly what the various jobs entail?

1.  Club Secretary - the Secretary’s job involves coming to maybe 8 evening meetings spread through the whole year and drawing up the minutes.  The rest would be dealing with Club Correspondence that can be done from home at your convenience and might need the odd phone call to the Chairman or Treasurer to sort out any questions.

 2. Purchasing Officer – this role involves coordinating a quarterly equipment order, as well as an annual order of new kits each summer.

 3. Sponsorship Officer – this role involves working with the individual age-groups to ensure that as far as possible each team has a kit sponsor. The Sponsorship Officer will also be responsible for working with both the Tournament and Presentation Day Sub-Committees, to drive as much sponsorship revenue as possible for these two key dates in the Club Calendar.

4.  Tournament Sub-Committee. In the next few weeks, Graham Rutland is going to be looking for volunteers to help him run an incredible Tournament. Lots of volunteers! Whether you can help with the setup, tear-down, run the beer tent, scoring tent, direct traffic in the car park, help-out with first-aid, cook burgers, sell ice-creams (etc. etc. you get the idea) Graham will want to hear from you.

 Best Regards,

Rob Cheshire

Match Fees 2011.

Written By Rob Cheshire
29 August 2011

At the recent Committee Meeting we discussed the financial position of the Club in the light of the increases in costs that we are facing in the coming season. (We have recently been advised of an increase of 25% in the pitch fees at the CSA).

We have decided with immediate effect that the league match fees for all age-groups will increase to £2.50 per player. The only exception to this is the Men's teams who will continue to pay £5 per player. Tournament fees will continue to be £4 per player as previously.

I hope that you understand the need for this increase, which is the first increase in either Membership fees or match fees for a number of years.

As a Committee we are responsible for ensuring that the Club remains on a sound financial footing. As such it is important that we ensure that match-day finances are close to a break-even proposition for the Club, rather than a source of weekly losses.
